In addition to what Jafo said, the gutters will indeed keep your side cover clean longer since the runoff from the roof will no longer run down your side cover.

@Kasnyku If you can reach the gutters, they debris can simply be scooped out with your hand. If your yurt platform is elevated, you'll have to work from a ladder, but the procedure would be the same....
