Default Yurt Living in Massachusetts?

Anyone here living in Rural Mass in yurt?

I'm hoping to find land 1 to 2 hrs from Boston and to live in a yurt.

Looking to connect with local yurt builders in New England. Only found

White Mountain Yurts

. Any other builders?

Interested in solar panels, composting toilets.

Thanks!

Justin

Justin,
I live in vt and bought my yurt from

white mountain yurts

. They are great people to work with.
As for composting toilets check out the humanure handbook ( assuming you have land and can compost) by Joseph Jenkins. Great system that I have been using for years.
It's essentially a bucket system. I divert from Humanure system slightly. I use a separate system for liquids as I use the nitrogen for plants. I do however water my compost pile with some of this liquid gold as well, just not all of it. It also reduces

moisture

in the bucket allowing for greater composting of solids.sometimes the system you end up using also depends on your comfort level.
Good luck in your new adventure

Just wondering if you had gotten anymore info on the yurt in the MA area...I'm in western MA and was thinking the same thing. It's not something you see everyday, but we should!! I was thinking if I had one built, I'd also have a metal roof installed as well, as extra protection from these NE winters....

Yup. Central Mass. We just moved in about a month ago. Quite nice. Got our yurt secondhand from some people on Craigslist, it is actually a dome/ yurt hybrid made by redskyshelters in n Carolina, the octayome!

Justin,

I believe our Yurt-Cabins may offer quite a few solutions over traditional fabric Yurts when it comes to living in extreme weather. In your case, living in rural Mass means cold, harsh winters and warm, humid summers. Our structures, which use OSB siding and

insulation

all around, provide owners with the ability to retain much more heat during the winter than a traditional Yurt. Cooling in the summer becomes easier as well.

We actually just received an order for two of our Yurt-Cabins from Delaware, both of which will be delivered in October. In regards to the metal roof comment, our Yurt-Cabins use

Durolast

PVC membranes which are commonly used in commercial applications with great success. We've experimented with metal roofs in the past, but found that

Durolast

offers a much more affordable solution, and is even covered by a 15 year warranty.

Please let me know if you'd be interested in exploring the advantages of our product.

Regards,

Josh

Not sure if NH is close enough but we just got our yurt from Two Girls Farm out of Alstead and love it. Awesome people with lots of love going into their structures. Very affordable too.

I'm in western mass, and am considering moving into a yurt this fall. Still researching, because this came up suddenly. But, maybe at the end of October? I've been looking at Two Girls also.

Has anyone dealt with zoning issues from New England Towns?

We're in VT and got our yurt from White Mountain - good people!!!

Zoning is highly town dependent... Ranging from no building permit required to lots of hoops to jump through
