Re: Yurt Insurance - Canada?
Hey Jeff!
I'm Canadian!!! I am from BC, but we live henceforth in PEI where we own two yurts that are both insured and mortgaged!
You need a great broker who wants to do work for you because finding a company isn't easy and they wont talk to you, only your broker. At this point in time you need an underwriters insurance company for yurt structures (i don't know if you were already aware of this) and an insurance agent who isn't being lazy and taking the easy, non-challenging cases can find one in a short time. They have to be on the side of your yurt and kinda... be an advocate for it. If they can't sell it to a company, they don't always want them. Its way more expensive for underwriters, but they are the only companies that will touch yurts. I don't know where our company is located, but its McTague and Associates... or something. I don't think they are in the Maritimes so they might be open to insuring out there too. We have privatized insurance on this side of the country unlike the ICBC monopoly they have going there, so our agents are a little less apathetic about getting and keeping our business. I used to know the name of an underwriters in BC that handled some yurts but I forgot the name of it... its over 3 years of stress ago so I forget now. I got the name/tip from the YurtCo company when I was still deciding on who to go with. They probably would still know if you ever wanted to contact them. (it might have been beacon724 they said... but don't quote me on that one)
