Re: Stove pipe exit--cooking
Well, I've slowly been working on the stove pipe exit. At the moment, I just need to sew the loops on the canvas I can I pretty much string it up (once I have rope). Here's a picture of the various parts.
We use it to cook on occasion (made some nice smores once) with the crown ring open. I stoked it a bit hot to get sizable coals for marshmallow roasting and the first section of stove pipe out of the burner discolored a little--just a light yellow. This means that section got something like 420-480 F, according to some temper coloring charts. Even that hot it didn't heat the yurt up, except the cast iron top. I need to read up on the regulations/specifications for what chimney clearances I can get away with...
I can start it quickly now at least. Needs a top-down fire with max size ~1x2 sticks--barely any smoke on startup if done right. More review to follow once it gets used consistently.
