Heating the yurt with propane
We still have yet to get the wood stove in, so we heated the yurt this weekend with one of those ventless propane heaters.. It did an ok job, until the temperature fell below 30 degrees, then it had to work overtime.. There was a lot of on the windows and in the morning. From what I have read, this is common with these type of heaters. We opened the windows and the in the morning for about 4 hours and it dried everything out.
I really cannot wait until we get the wood stove! We have so much wood lying around that we could probably heat that camp for the next 10 years without cutting down a single tree. For one thing, the loggers leave a lot behind when they finish up. Much of this can be used for firewood. Another thing is, trees fall all on their own in our area. The ground is very rocky (glacial gravel) so many trees will not get the best footings when growing up. Eventually some of them just tip over. I could get all the firewood I wanted out of there to heat my home (if I heated with wood) and still never have to cut down a tree. Talk about living green!
Anyway, we had a good weekend, and got a lot of work done. Still have a bit to do to make the place cozy, but we are getting there!
