Re: good deal on a black bear?
I've used a Jotul Black Bear for five years and I have no complaints, other than I have to put wood into it to get it to heat up! The Black Bear takes long wood and cigar burns the logs so they burn from front to back. With some practice, you can load up the firebox and by adjusting the air you can get four or five hours of burn, but on cold nights you've got to refill about every three and a half hours. As to the price, $1000.oo is reasonable for a one year old stove. Offer them $800.00 and see what happens. I'm sitting next to my Black Bear as I type, and it offers a good warm fire. Good luck!
