Cell Phone Service in Remote Yurts
One of the issues I have at my yurt camp is that I have barely any access to cell service. At first I thought this was great because I could get away from the world for a while. The problem is, I couldn't spend a lot of time at the yurt because I need to be able to communicate, especially since I work online. I tried a couple small boosters, the kind made for cars and they helped a little. I could at least send text messages and use a few apps. However, I still had to leave camp to go back to work at my home office. If there was an emergency and I had to get online to help a client, there was no choice but to go home.
Finally I invested in a commercial grade cell phone booster, by Wilson Electronics.
Now I get 5 bars of service and 3G into camp. I can work up there when needed. It really comes in handy during hunting season because I don't have to take off as much time from work. I made sure I got the Yagi (directional) antenna because the omnidirectional one is only for when you have a good signal outside, but need to boost it inside.
Anyway, I know I am not the only yurter here who has to deal with poor cell reception so since I have tested this out for the last month or so, I thought I would share.
