Default 30 foot yurt

30 feet in diameter just doesn't sound very big until you finally get the yurt completed. As I slowly add furniture to the yurt, I am amazed how quickly the space swallows it all up. I probably would have been fine with a 20-24 yurt after all. I am not complaining, I love all the space, I am just mentioning this because when I was shopping for the yurt, I was worried about getting one that was too small.

If I was living in the yurt full time, then yes, I would definitely want the 30 footer, because I would want a bathroom inside, bedroom, etc.. But for my camp, it is slightly overkill.

Of course, all of this could have been dealt with ahead of time if there were some other yurts around here in upstate New York to check out before purchase..

We're lucky. We're in a little town of less than 1,000 here in Alaska, and yet I know of at least 3 yurts here, and a 4th is going up today (Nomad Shelter). As we're in the market, we're looking forward to seeing this one go up. Planning has been fun, as we're moving from a 2,000 sq. ft. house into a 24-ft. yurt for the winter. We're going to try it and then decide whether to go for a 30-ft, or maybe a hard-sided. The noise will be the big factor although we'll be adding rigid sheets of

insulation

to the walls. The 24 will become a rental. Also looking at hard-sided yurts, and there's one of those here, too!

Thanks for posting pictures! My husband and I are looking to put up a 30 foot yurt (with a sleeping loft) as a full time residence, good to know you think it's a good size for full time living!
