Firewood

Looks like a lot of pine. Be prepared to clean your chimney more than you would with hardwood.

Siberian larch to be precise. I have little experience with wood types for burning. Larch is a "hard" softwood from what I've learned. There's the occasional silver birch tree amongst a sea of larches.

It's free though so there's that. I'm expecting labor to be needed in many forms but I'm retired (early) so that's fine.

Well seasoned ponderosa pine burns clean in my experience. Pine sucks as firewood, but it sure beats not having firewood. Edit to add, I also burn seasoned scrub oak, which is wonderful fuel. Not only does it burn long, but the smell is incredible. There's a reason why charred oak is used for whisky barrels.
