Cows and yurts

HELP!!!! I am building a new yurt from yurt.com in Cottage Grove, Oregón. My land is free range land in SE Arizona and the cows seem to munch on everything from cloth to plastic. Are they going to eat my yurt? If so what is the best protection? Thank you for help! Love the cows, but do wish to keep my yurt intact! Shiloh
 
I was going to setup my yurt in a cow pasture, but I got a job elsewhere before that became a reality. I wouldn't expect the cows to munch on the materials too much, but they could easily decide it's a good scratching post...

Anyhow, simple electric fencing isn't too expensive (especially with an AC energizer) and should be pretty effective at keeping them away. A single ribbon might even be enough, depending on the cows... It would also protect any garden/decorative plants you have around.
 
I am with hierony, electric fence.

I bought a solar fence charger at Tractor Supply last time I was in the US, and it was $25.00, summer of 2016. Fiberglass posts = no insulators, and wire is cheap. Don't forget to ground it well.

There is also a setup for horse campers that has a wide white fiberglass tape with embedded wires that is very easy to see, and reminds everything that has tested it once that they shouldn't do it again.

And i'll suggest you don't pee on it, there are better ways to test it... just ask my terrier. he gives that tape a sideways glance and a wide berth, anytime he even thinks about getting close to it.

Heading for Arizona, I think you will have enough sun to keep it charged.

I have never heard of a cow chewing on one of our yurts, but anything is possible. I agree that a simple electric fence around the yurt would be sufficient deterrent. You should also make sure that the side cover is installed tightly to make it difficult for an animal to get a hold of the fabric.
