Default Traditional yurt Door flag poles

This is a question of curiosity more than anything...

I have looked at a ton of yurt pictures in order to design my 20ft yurt greenhouse, and have learned quite a bit.

But one thing I noticed is that on some traditional yurts there are two flagpoles on the wings of the door. Are these true flag poles for decoration or do they serve a particular structural purpose. If so can you give more details on how they are installed. None of the images I have found have enough detail to give the information.

Love the great information on the forum!

The 'flag' poles are actually the two extra rafter poles. New gers in Mongolia always come with two extra in case of breakage, or a badly warped one. They actually serve a purpose by making a better seal of the layers of felt, and outer canvas to the door, being held in place by the tension bands.
