I Wonder How Many Yurts Are in the US?

I was thinking earlier whether yurts are rare in the US or are becoming more commonplace.

If anyone has any statistics on the number of yurts in America, and maybe even with specifics on region, I would love to hear about them! And if anyone has found webpages or articles with stats, I would love to read them.

Does anyone know what the average numbers must be?

I don't know of any group that keeps stats on such a thing.

Yurts are extremely rare in the US at this point. I live in a city of 420K and I'll bet there aren't more then a dozen yurts permanently erected here. In fact mine just might be the only one around here. This is a very conservative area though.

In Latah County, Idaho, I know of maybe 7 yurts other than my own (two of those geodesic yurts). County population is ~37k. County code specifically forbids yurts as permanent dwellings, but that's not to say they can't serve other purposes (guest house, B&B/campground, storage space).

There may be more around. I specifically know of two Tiny House trailers, though others may be pretty well hidden. I try to keep my yurt fairly discrete.

When googled, it shows 242 listings for yurt rentals in the United States. Im sure the same could be researched for

I can personally vouch for several in Alaska.

I think it would be hard. As someone already hinted, small or alternative dwellings are not welcomed by some communities causing yurts and tiny houses to be discreet.

Off topic. Man invented the yurt -THE premier tent imo- prior to any government and tax based regulatory system. Hard to believe isn't it but back then generations ago there were no mortgage payments for half your life. lol No bureaucracy telling you what to build. You could come into your yurt after a days labor and enjoy the fire and your family, just like everyone else around you. Isn't that something to think about? If there were problems, and there most certainly were, you handled them yourself, to the best of your ability, like a man.
