Hi There! I'm part of a college outing club looking to replace our current 16' yurt. The platform is still intact but the yurt itself is in disrepair. We're thinking about using

White Mountain Yurts

; I'm still doing research, but the location is relatively close to where we'd like to build. Is WMY a good place to get a yurt, on both price and quality fronts? Any info or insight would be helpful. Thanks!!

I have heard nothing but good things about them myself. They are definitely a good option on the shipping end, being so much closer than a lot of the West coast manufacturers.

Here is a list of other threads where they were mentioned:

Our 20 foot White Mountain Yurt is going up this weekend on a platform in western maine that we built over last summer (pics @ https://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisd...7635320828722/ ) - the install was scheduled for late last year but the cold weather & snow intervened.

ijenn - sounds like we may be in the same area. I'd be happy to comment on the experience/quality after next weekend or send you detailed pictures. If you folks end up hiking in and around the western maine / NH border region near Gorham NH & Bethel Main you are welcome to stop to check out our setup.

Hey chrisdag! Those pictures look phenomenal. I think there is a chance that we'll be driving up from Boston to North Conway next weekend, but I wouldn't want to interrupt your work. If you wouldn't mind though, did you also purchase the 'snow and wind' kit? I am not sure if it's completely necessary, but on the other hand the yurt is going to be located near North Conway and will undoubtedly see a lot of snow. We won't be around every weekend to try and clean off the top so it might be a good idea?

I'm also trying to contact

Pacific Yurts

- they also have a lot of good reviews- but it's hard to think they could be competitive with WMY when shipping is taken into account.

Thanks for any info! I appreciate it!

Hello all!
One more question - since we're looking at another 16' yurt, WMY has told us that if we have the additional ring supports than the full snow & wind kit may not be necessary (due to the smaller size). Is this something we should really forgo, though? The yurt will be located around North Conway, NH and there is a chance we won't be up there every weekend to check on it if we get a lot of snow. We're trying to keep costs down but at the same time I don't want to be worried about it collapsing.

I see there is a way to modify the yurt after installation with some additional supports but I thought I'd ask everyone here - is the snow and wind kit just a sensible investment?

Thanks again for all the help, really appreciate it!

I would get the snow package myself. If I was living in it full time, then maybe not because a heated yurt stays clean of snow.

chrisdag, thanks for the slide show. As an aside here, it's good to see a woman involved in the construction process. Well done.
