How does one move a yurt around the country? Uhaul?

Hey Yurt Girl,

We use a 12' utility trailer, this holds our 5wall 19ft yurt, stove, kitchen, bed, table, dresser...... Plus whatever doesn't fit goes in the back of the pickup! Our traditional Mongolian yurts can fit in the back of a full sized pickup bed, if you are moving just the yurt.

How heavy is it all would you guess?

My guess would be a 16' yurt is ~ 600 lbs. total for everything, and that would include felt

insulation

.

Since the longest dimension is < 8', and less than 4' wide, it is transportable in a midsize minivan, small truck, or if you are really determined, add a solid rack to the top of your car. Lay down the door frame with door attached, the khana, the rafters, ring. Stuff the fabric and

insulation

inside.

I've seen that in pictures, but I wouldn't recommend it. Especially on the interstate -unless of course you're one of those people that practices tying knots at night just for the fun of it. lol

Yep, Bob nailed it, about 600lbs for the 16ft traditional Mongolian yurt. I actually just had to squeeze a 4wall into my 81 VW vanagon for a customer. Not much room for anything else but it fit!
