Default Re: My Three & Five Year Pacific Yurt Review

Paint is a much better protector of wood vs clear coat. This isn't jmo. I have read long term test report where a man in OK finished wood with several clear finishes and oil based paint. He then left them in the weather for years.

Without going into detail, the paint was still in fine shape about seven years? after all the clear finish was blown. Looking out the wondow at a piece I painted back in the mid 90s with black rustoleum enamel. The paint is still adhereing and the wood is still in good condition. The paint film is blown and starting to chip. Now that is a superior paint lemme tell yuh.

Clear is a good finish. You do need to refinish no later then every two years though, for long service outdoors.
