Re: Looking for someone that has experience in financing a yurt as a permenant reside
Jafo, looks like the "hoop" I will have to jump through to pass this through the building department is even higher than I thought it was. They say that yurts do not pass the energy code, and do not have a way to factor their (The developed reflective insulation). I was given a contact via today whom is based out of Idaho and is a engineer. He has provided services such as an engineer stamped certificate showing that not only do yurts usually meet code, but can also rate higher than a conventional home, or at least go above the R-value they require. We will see how that plans out. I am heading into the planning/building department tomorrow armed with every piece of information and book that I own on yurts. What is crazy to me is that our state and county parks have approved yurts (from Pacific Yurts) for rentals all over Oregon. These are rented out (in much colder climates than mine), and are used every season of the year, many go without a single day in between the next occupant.... But are still considered a "recreational building, or transient occupancy" ... So basically if it is the SAME family or person residing year round in a yurt it is not okay, but as long as there are different people staying in the yurt year round it is okay. Seems silly to me. Hopefully it will pan out, I'll keep you updated after we meet with them tomorrow.
