Re: Looking for someone that has experience in financing a yurt as a permenant reside
I know that this is an older thread, but would like to know how your project has progressed. I’ve recently purchased land, and have my yurt on it’s way. I found that by doing a concrete foundation with a wooden platform for the yurt that it was easier to get financing and permitting for my yurt.
It’s definitely going to depend on your local government, either city or county. I’m in the county and I also think that helped a lot with getting the approval. Cities tend to be a little more strict on the building codes. I doubt that it’s impossible to get, just may take some creativity to persuade them.
I do know that if you need financing that the site that I bought mine through, simpleterra.com/yurt-kits/, has their own in house financing. I just took a look at it and they require 60-65% down and they will finance the rest.
Seeing that this thread was started in 2013, you’d think that a lot of progress would have been made in the last six years for alternate living homes, but a lot of areas just haven’t dealt with people looking for permitting for them. I think I’m probably the first one in my area to put one up as a permanent home.
Reassuring the bank about things like you have an actual door and windows that locks helps too. A lot of people hear the word yurt and they assume it’s just a fancy tent. It definitely takes a lot on the customers part to be creative with how to go about it.
