Default I am buying a yurt!

After researching for over a year, I am finally going to purchase a yurt. Tomorrow I will send in the order form for a 30 foot yurt from

Pacific Yurts

. They are currently having a sale which made me pull the trigger. I am getting the snow kit, along with upgraded rafters (2X6). I plan on putting the yurt up on some property of ours in the Adirondack state park. We get quite a bit of snow, so I felt it important to upgrade to beefier rafters.

I have ordered both top and side

insulation

. I have added the stove flashing, inward opening door, 3 extra standard windows,

dome

opener, bug screen, duralast roof, and the tall walls.

I am hoping for it to arrive in March.

I must say that researching yurts was not easy. There was really no place to talk about it with people. After that adventure I decided to start this forum to help people looking for information on yurts. I will post back to this thread as my order progresses!

In talks with a couple contractor friends of mine to find out how much it will cost to put up the platform I want. No hard numbers yet. I have to see about a permit. One contractor seemed to think I will probably only need a building permit for the platform itself. We will have to see.

Hi Moggles!

Yes, I am really excited about getting the yurt. There is so much to do! It should be arriving here in another month, and I have to get the spot cleared, the platform up, the dirt road finished, and THEN finally put up the Yurt!

I started this forum to document this experience and maybe even get some help from others who have done this before.

Are you still thinking about building a yurt in New Zealand? If so, where? I hear your country is beyond amazingly beautiful. I imagine there are some stunning places to build a yurt. We would love to see some photos.

Why did you choose pacific over other companies such as

colorado yurts

? I'm
Trying to make a decision between the two.

At the time there was not a lot of info out there about yurts other than what manufacturers were saying about their own stock. I went with PY at the time because I could find the most information about them from actual owners.

Since I started Yurt Forum, I have heard from a plethora of different owners and builders. If I had to make that decision today it would almost be harder than it was before lol. There are many good manufacturers out there. I still think Pacific Yurts went above and beyond the call of duty with me. If I had to do it all over again I would probably go with them because they treated me so well.

When I buy ANOTHER yurt, it will be from a different manufacturer not because of anything against PY, but because I want to experience them all. In fact, I look at it as a personal goal to one day own a yurt from each manufacturer. This Spring I am probably going to get one from

Surely Yurts

for example. It will be my "bath yurt".
