Yurt Ceiling Fan

For the last 3-4 years, we have a yard sale every summer. Each year, we have tried to sell this brand new ceiling fan we received as a gift, for even as low as $5. It never moved. Today I decided I am going to hook it up in the yurt. Since we have no formal electric, just marine batteries and a solar panel, I am just going to wire it up to an extension cord rated for 15amps. I believe that with all the lights on and the fan at high speed, it draws about 5 amps.

I got the ceiling fan hooked up, but unfortunately the fan is fubar. The lights worked good though, so I have left it up for now. We got the fan as a wedding present 6 years ago (today actually ) so I can't complain to loudly. Anyway, the lights REALLY lit up the yurt:

When the yurt was delivered, several of the rafters were damaged by forklifts.

stepped right up and sent me new ones instantly. They did not want the damaged ones back, so I have a stack of 10 of them under the yurt. I cut that 2X6 from one and screwed it to the

center ring

with 4 2" screws.

Yes, they're good about that kind of thing. Just a caution: If you do get a fan working up there, they shake around a lot, which will loosen the screws and create a potential hazard. Most fan yurt fan supports are designed to sit in/on the ring. You know how the ring has two levels to it? If you angle cut the 2x6 to sit within the ring, then you can screw down into the ring and then it would be good and safe even with the bounciest of fans.

That's pretty good advice. I have to take the thing down again anyway so that is probably what I will do. The biggest issue I have to consider is that bug screen though.. Hmm, now that I think of it, that would be a problem because it sits below the ring... Well when the time comes, I will have to find a solution to that.. Maybe a strap over the ends of the 2X6, screwed into the ring. They should not vibrate out I wouldn't think?

We usually make a hole in the middle of the screen for the fan post. You can reinforce it with scrap vinyl material if you have any.
