Hello, everyone. I'd like to get some advice on constructing a yurt. It won't be like the modern, standard designs that we are all familiar with. I'm attempting one that reflects how the Scythians and Sarmatians may have built theirs.
First, the tent itself. I want it to be of pure wool felt, wood, and ties. I am using this as a resource:
I'm looking at the three concepts seen at the bottom. They seem simple enough. Being an interpretation of what may have been, I know it may not be completely accurate. Historical accuracy isn't really my goal here, though. I just want a nice tent on a cart.
Secondly, the wooden cart. That part is straightforward. It will be about 12-15 feet long and 8-10 feet wide.
What I am trying to figure out here is where one can acquire felt. I live in Canada, but I am willing to order something from elsewhere. The only felt I've been able to find in Canada is meant for industrial purposes. I don't want this and I don't know how safe it is. I'd be willing to just make my own if that's what it comes down to. That's not my preference, obviously, and it's not always easy to find that much affordable wool in my area.
If anyone has some kind insight to share, I'd appreciate it.
Thank you.
