Saplings for Khana
Hi all, I'm new here but I've been floating and reading for some time now.
My partner and I are considering putting up a yurt here in Vermont. Last summer we visited a local manufacturer (Two Girls Farm). We were interested in how they built their yurts from saplings halved. We considered buying a yurt from them, but we're also interested in building a 24' yurt to live in full-time. Ideally we would use saplings too.
Since then I've found myself frequently looking at Paul King's Complete Yurt Handbook. King explains in detail how to make a yurt using saplings as wall poles. We're leaning towards this process since saplings are cheaply available here. The largest yurt that King built was a 16', so I'm wondering if a 24' yurt can be feasibly framed considering the weight of canvas, , and a possible snow load. Does anyone have any insight into this building technique?
