I agree and prefer to use cordage of sorts. Ended up with 140 slats that were knotless. Will cut one more log worth and then cut some rafters. Doug Fir being an ideal NA species to build with, ash has similar strength properties. My woodlot has lots of forest growth ash that is dying so it cost me $3 of fuel for the mill.

Actually have some smaller cherry too I could use but the are maybe only 12" butt logs.
