Metal roof suggestions to replace leaking canvas

We are considering replacing our leaking canvas roof on our 24ft yurt with metal roofing 30degree pitch. Found a company in NY with cost of $7000 . Any other options or suggestions would be most welcome. If you have gone this route did you place on top of canvas and

insulation

or remove the old canvas. Reluctant to replace with new canvas as it only lasted 3 years in New Mexico high elevation, lots of sun and good amounts of snow in the winter. Appreciate your feedback.
