However many you have, make sure they are bonded together.

Yes, of course. That is the plan. I've got more than enough braided copper wire to do that. I might have another 'bash' at hammering the other 2 rods. I might get lucky and not hit a rock if I try enough spots.

Beside the situation in open field it can be dangerous close to trees too:

Thunderstorm activity. Lightning rods for trees

Some interesting aspects and diagrams....

UK, me and two buddies were climbing 2 of the 54 14,000 foot peaks here in CO back in about 1992. We got caught in an electrical storm a couple hundred yards from the summit of Mt. Tabeguache, all rock and no place to hide up there. Several lightning strikes hit so close there was no lag in sound. Hair standing straight out and pack frame singing. Rocks had blue crackling light spidering across them. Absolutely terrifying.

Thanks for comments on grounding your yurts guys.

The traditional ger on our land is right under a big tree. We don’t sleep in it and avoid using it during an electric storm. It’s a spare for occasional guests essentially. I could install an LPS for just that one ger but it’s a really cheap ger and I don’t even own it. It’s technically owned by one of my wife’s relatives. So I’m hesitant to bother protecting it. Climbing a tall tree to the very top to install an air terminal wouldn’t be easy either.

Besides that, Mongolia’s rainy season is only 3 months in summer. Sometimes you weigh the risk/reward and decide it’s not worth it.

You're right - guests are not that important and you can dispose of them to the wolves in case they were struck by lightning.....

Haha. It sounds a bit callous when I read it again. However with all the Spenser’s I’m still facing, economies have to be made. High ranking guests get one of the modern gers. Low ranking guests get or sometimes choose the traditional ger. Which is rare.

Also, Mongolians are mostly Buddhist, so if they get struck by lightning, it was their bad kharma that caused it. I didn’t choose that location and I wouldn’t have. My wife’s extended family did. I preferred another site but I was vetoed. See photo. The site I chose is a safe distance from trees and I wasn’t even thinking about lightning at that stage.

Absolutely right - if they had lived a life more pleasing to God, milk & honey would have flowed and lightning would not have been hurled from heaven....
