Default Any SIP platform builders out there?

Hello all,

Getting ready to build the platform for a 30' Pacific. There is a SIP manufacturer where I live, so I was wondering if anyone has experience with this install for the floor. I'm based in Atlantic Canada, with cold, wet, windy winters. Wondering what the best thickness would be, and if theres any associated hangups one should be prepared for.

This will be our first platform build, although my friend who is helping has experience with SIP installation.

Thanks!

I am about to set up my yurt and I was trying to make a SIP platform.

Groovy yurts

already sell theirs but it was out of my budget. I tried to get some quotes and they got back to me with the same or higher quotes. I am in Ottawa. So I decided on straw bales instead.

Thanks, I didn't know Groovy offered this. Good to know they use 3" thickness. Wow, not cheap either! Also would like to know how far down us folks up in the north are digging for pillars to beat the frost line?

Ask the local building dept. We can only guess the depth here.

Yup, 4' they say. Jafo, if you're out there, I looked at your photo album....awesome spot and a very nice yurt! Wondering if you could share how you did your piers/footings? We are both in similar climates, how far down did you go with those?

I just ran some rebar into the ground, put a giant square block around it, and then filled in the block with concrete. Nothing under the ground except the rebar.

Have you had any frost heaving issues with that method?

I have not, but the terrain at my camp is a bit different. It is very rocky glacier gravel there. Definitely not typical.

Jafo,

I think it's a very good topic and there's no other place on the internet that covers it. Maybe you can ask Yves to share some plans or know how with us? Of course if it's not conflicting with his business model.

Another question Jafo...how many concrete footing blocks did you do for your 30'?
