It sounds to me like your chimney outside could (and maybe should) go higher. Ours is higher than our dome. Local building codes differ, but there would definitely be a minimum height it needs to be...

We had a gate that attached to the snow legs on either side of the stove. When we took our yurt down, moved it and put it back up last year, we didn’t re-install the gate. Our kids are old enough now...
