Default Greetings from Germany

Hello from Germany!

We're a British/Japanese family, trying to find a low(er) impact path forward. To this end we manage to get about using public transport and bikes, and I'm currently doing a three year apprenticeship as a carpenter/cabinet maker to get skills for a low energy economy. We also have an allotment which we're slowly working on although it is mostly brambles at the moment, and we're trying to find a way to get around draconian local planning laws by building a Yurt so we can be on site a bit more than we can now, and possibly think about more time-intensive things like chickens.

As we live in the heart of one of the most car-dominated areas of the world, notions like Peak Oil, Climate Change, or living more simply, don't come up on most people's agenda, so being part of a forum where we can ask questions about practical matters would really help. Of course, we'll still be asking a lot of Questions locally, but sometimes it is handy for the first questions to be in my first language so I can then ask more intelligently locally...
