Yurt in Denmark ?

I'm still looking for the right choice.

And the reason I want to live in yurt is that I want to live more simple.
At present, I own a large farm from 1850.

I'm tired of all that work
There with such a big place.

Sounds to me like a nomadic sized yurt just might be in your future. Being tied down on one spot that is essentially a ton of work and repairs has got to be a big pita sometimes. A simple yurt you can move in two days to a whole new location you lease for a year or half year could be a real relief. Simple is best in many ways. Good luck.

However, my wife is afraid to freeze in the winter.

It's rarely cold -10 c. in Denmark.
but it blows a lot and is wet most of the time.

Is it a problem to keep the heat in yurt?

My yurt is canvas cover only, uninsulated, and drafty. As such it doesn't hold heat whatsoever. Unfamiliar with a tight insulated yurt so no other comment.

Der findes fabrikanter i feks. UK som har specialiseret sig i at fabrikere til det ret våde/fugtige klima vi har på disse breddegrader. Måske er det værd for jer at tjekke ud?

Jeg selv er i gang med at købe en traditionel mongolsk yurt men med ekstra top (ifht regn/fugt) og isolering. Du er velkommen til at skrive til mig hvis det er - jeg er dog på ingen måder ekspert men har kontakt til andre som bor i deres yurt og har gjort det i over et år.

For me are traditional Mongolian Yurts not the right choice for regions with high rain intensities. Although it´s raining too in Mongolia, it´s really windy and in each phase without rain, the Yurts are drying quick.

Haha it's perfectly fine, it's just a lot easier for me to write in danish. The traditional ones, I'm talking about, have more additions to it - because of the weather, so I'm all aware of of the weather issue - and that's part of what I mentioned in danish ;o)

FWIW my canvas came 'treated' with water repellent. That worked fantastic the first couple years. Shed water like a duck for 100 plus continuous weeks. Third year it wasn't beading anymore but still shed water great.

By the fourth year the canvas was really starting to get fully saturated during a good rain or snow, but not leaking into the inside. Now at five plus years the canvas doesn't repel water at all. Instantly gets soaked and drips off from the sags between roof rafters. Canvas still has some structural integrity but I'd say it is about half as strong -maybe less- as it was when new. For practical purposes anyone actually living in that yurt woud have needed to replace the canvas at four years. So that's the story of canvas here in the semi arid CO climate. Five years is past the limit. Four years is the real limit.

As such anyone that lives in the yurt past time say camping a month or two during hunting season will get a few decades of use out of their cover. I've said it many times, those that plan to make the yurt a permanent home over many years are wise to invest in a professional fifteen year cover. I just don't have the interest in redoing my cover anymore. The yurt will be dismantled sometime soon this fall and stored for my grandkids. My son has zero interest in the yurt.

My grandkids are now 10, 12, and 16. They used to have fun in the yurt, but now they don't have any interest when they come over for the weekend. I do miss those times in the yurt for sure. They don't stay young for long, and things change with time. :/

My interest has faded as well. I'm probably about out the door here. I've had a good time here over the years, and have learned alot. I'll bet a few folks are likely burned out on my posts. 'sheesh...again!!??' lol Later, Bob.
