Moving yurt door
Hi! I've had a pacific yurt for 3 years now. I have the snow load package with posts for reinforced strength. We love it but want to move the door. We really don't want to take the whole thing down to move the door. Any thoughts?

Are you looking to rotate the yurt so the door is facing a different direction, or remove the door from the original location and install it into another one? Also, what diameter yurt is it?

Thanks so much for responding.
Specs: 20' yurt
Door, with window on either side, is currently facing east. Want to move door and window to face north. I don't want to take down the ceiling.

If you enlist the help of several friends you could disconnect the side cover, door threshold and lattice wall from the platform, and then with several people evenly spaced around the interior perimeter, lift the yurt by gripping the lattice wall and rotate it to face the desired direction. You will of course need to notch the 1" lip of your platform's drip edge where the door will be located to allow the threshold to overhang. Be sure sure re-anchor the yurt onto the platform when you're done. I hope this helps!

That sounds doable. While a 20' yurt is still nomadic in size, with studs under the rafters it's gonna be unwieldy to lift. If you have a man every 6 feet around the perimeter it will take ten guys. With a man every 8 feet of perimeter you'll need 8 guys. Good luck finding that many dudes that can all show up on a Sat or Sunday.

Bob, if that particular yurt has our snow & wind kit, the rafter supports (studs), could be removed prior to lifting the yurt in order to reduce weight.

Yeah this sounds like a good plan. I would just be careful you don't slip it off the platform. Don't lift it too high.

Agreed. They shouldn't need to lift it more than an inch or two.
